PAAN, in partnership with the Jerry Bola Organization (Babambola), conducted a community peace sensitization campaign aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, social harmony, responsible citizenship, and community engagement among informal sector workers and vulnerable populations.
The campaign engaged waste pickers and community members through awareness sessions on peacebuilding, conflict prevention, tolerance, environmental responsibility, and the importance of collective action in building safer and more inclusive communities. The initiative demonstrated PAAN's commitment to grassroots peacebuilding and community-based approaches to promoting peace and social cohesion.
The increasing need for peaceful coexistence, social inclusion, and community engagement among vulnerable populations has become essential for sustainable community development. Informal sector workers, particularly waste pickers, often face social exclusion, limited access to civic education, and inadequate opportunities for participation in peacebuilding initiatives. Recognizing these challenges, PAAN, in partnership with the Jerry Bola Organization (Babambola), implemented a community peace sensitization campaign aimed at strengthening social harmony and promoting responsible citizenship.
The campaign focused on engaging waste pickers and community members through awareness sessions designed to foster peacebuilding, conflict prevention, environmental responsibility, and collective community action. This initiative reflects PAAN's commitment to grassroots approaches that promote peace, inclusion, and sustainable community development.
Several challenges continue to hinder peaceful coexistence and social cohesion within vulnerable communities, including: Limited awareness and understanding of peacebuilding and conflict prevention mechanisms among informal sector workers. Social exclusion and marginalization of waste pickers and other vulnerable populations. Low levels of community participation in activities that promote social harmony and collective responsibility. Environmental practices that may contribute to community tensions and health concerns. Insufficient platforms for dialogue, engagement, and collaboration among community members.
To address these challenges, PAAN and the Jerry Bola Organization implemented the following interventions: Conducted community peace sensitization sessions to increase awareness of peacebuilding, tolerance, and conflict prevention. Promoted responsible citizenship by encouraging active participation in community development and collective action. Facilitated engagement between waste pickers and community members to strengthen social inclusion and mutual understanding. Raised awareness on environmental responsibility as a key component of peaceful and sustainable communities. Strengthened grassroots peacebuilding efforts through community-based approaches that foster social cohesion and inclusive development.
